Farming
Farming, apart from mining, was the other main occupation, mainly sheep farming but they also planted crops and most farms were effectively self sufficient but only provided a meagre income. Often farmers supplemented this by hiring out their horses and wagons to the lead mine company and were used to haul lead and zinc to Llandovery. Shearing of the sheep was usually a large social occasion with all their neighbours helping out. It was therefore always wise to keep in with your neighbour. We have included photographs (gallery) of the shearing day – ‘Diwrnod cneifio’ and many other items of interest.
