Welcome to our website which is dedicated to the history of Rhandirmwyn and the upper Tywi (Towy) valley, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Our intention is to collate information, stories and photographs from days gone by up until the present time.  If you have any stories or other interesting tales or photographs Please contact us.

Tom Lewis 1878 – 1950.  Born Bryntowy, Rhandirmwyn, photographer who’s legacy is a wonderful collection of photographs of the views and people of the upper Tywi valley through the early 1900’s.

Nantymwyn Lead Mine this was the largest in southern Wales.  View maps and photographs  of some of the houses and streets associated with the mine.   Future plans for this particular page include more photographs and the complete history of the mine as well as the miners tale which will be extracts from an interview with a miner who worked there in the early 1900's.

The Old School  The village school sadly closed in 1969.  It played a very important part in the life of old Rhandirmwyn.  See photographs and read about its history.  Much more to come.

Red Kite  Much has been written about the survival of this once very rare bird which at one time could only be found in the upper Tywi valley.  The Gwenffrwd and Dinas bird reserves were set up to help protect this beautiful bird of prey.

Llyn Brianne Reservoir  Inaugurated on the 15th May 1973.  This is the story of the opposition, the public enquiry and plans and photographs.

America Connections Are you searching for relatives who left for America, or are you living there or anywhere else for that matter and looking for your ancestors who originated from Rhandirmwyn or the upper Tywi (Towy) valley.  Let me have your story.
