Twm Siôn Cati (1530 -1609)

Twm Siôn Cati. (also spelt Shôn).  Thomas Jones was a well known highwayman who originated from Tregaron but had strong association with Ystradffin and Rhandirmwyn.  There is a hiding place located on Dinas hill (now a bird reserve) which was known as Twm Siôn Cati’s cave.  This used to be a regular visit for day trippers to Rhandirmwyn.

It was effectively closed off to the public by the RSPB in order to protect the Red Kite which was nesting in the area.  I think it is time now we were able to visit the cave once more.  Can you imagine anyone ever considering stopping visitors seeing the great oak in Sherwood Forest.   I’ll leave it to you, but the tales live on.  Please visit the Tom Lewis photo gallery to see old photographs of Twm Siôn Cati’s cave.  Extracts from the stories about Twm Shon Cati will be included in the future.

Did you visit the cave back in the 50’s and 60’s.
