The Tale of Twm Siôn Cati tells the story of a Welshman born in a time of lawlessness and disorder, poverty and unrest. In this story, the Squire, Jasper Tyler and Elias Richards, the rich shopkeeper, support Henry VIII's attempts to impose law and order in a wild and dangerous Wales. In these perilous times, people were condemned for celebrating innocent customs like the May Day festival and the Mari Lwyd.
